Next, we will consider various programming paradigms, appropriate characteristics for embedded and real-time programming languages, and an introduction to the C programming language and contrast it with C++. We continue by describing the organization of a computer, including descriptions of Turing machines, register machines, main memory, processor architecture and operating systems. Continuing from here, we describe static memory allocation and the call stack, and then consider dynamic memory allocation, including numerous variable-sized-block strategies, their appropriateness for real-time systems and various implementations in FreeRTOS. We also consider automatic memory allocation, including garbage collection. Following this, we discuss the idea of threads and tasks running in parallel, looking at examples of sorting in parallel, and the data structures necessary to maintain threads. We then consider the issue of scheduling threads, first with multi-programming, non-preemptive scheduling and the concept of context switching, and then considering multitasking with preemptive scheduling, focusing on real-time schedulers such as earliest-deadline-first and rate- monotonic scheduling. Next, we consider the issue of the communication of other devices with the processor and the concept of interrupts and interrupt service routines as well as the impact of interrupts on real-time systems. Next we consider synchronization issues between cooperating threads and tasks, including issues of serialization and synchronization. We describe semaphores and consider a number of synchronization problems and consider solutions using semaphores. Additionally, we consider other means of automatic synchronization. With this, we consider the application of semaphores and synchronization in general to resource management, looking specifically at priority inversion. The most serious issue, however, is deadlock, when tasks and threads holding resources are mutually blocked on subsequent requests and how to avoid this issue. Next, inter-process communication is discussed together with how synchronization can be achieved through messaging. Next, we consider fault tolerance, specifically considering error detection and correction, the synchronization of clocks, and fault-tolerant message passing. Having considered all this, we now consider how resource management can be centralized in an operating system protected with fault tolerance through kernel modes and space. Having achieved this, we now consider the problem of software simulating including client-server models and distributions, and then software verification, including a look at propositional logic, predicate logic, linear temporal logic, computation tree logic and model checkers. We conclude the course by consider issues of data management and file management, virtual memory and caching, digital signal processing and digital control theory, and finishing with an introduction to security and a look at what is ahead.<br/><br/>Listed by <a href="https://unglue.it/work/151435/">Unglue.it</a>.</div></Text></TextContent><SupportingResource><ResourceContentType>01</ResourceContentType><ContentAudience>00</ContentAudience><ResourceMode>03</ResourceMode><ResourceVersion><ResourceForm>01</ResourceForm><ResourceVersionFeature><ResourceVersionFeatureType>01</ResourceVersionFeatureType><FeatureValue>D502</FeatureValue></ResourceVersionFeature><ResourceLink>https://tieulgnu.s3.amazonaws.com/cache/4c/bc/4cbcc0a2c3c0aad3e2c1bb1f1a811a41.jpg</ResourceLink></ResourceVersion></SupportingResource></CollateralDetail><PublishingDetail><Publisher><PublishingRole>01</PublishingRole><PublisherName>Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Waterloo</PublisherName></Publisher><PublishingStatus>00</PublishingStatus><PublishingDate><PublishingDateRole>01</PublishingDateRole><Date>2015</Date></PublishingDate></PublishingDetail><ProductSupply><Market><Territory><RegionsIncluded>WORLD</RegionsIncluded></Territory></Market><SupplyDetail><Supplier><SupplierRole>11</SupplierRole><SupplierName>Unglue.it</SupplierName><Website><WebsiteRole>29</WebsiteRole><WebsiteDescription textformat="06">pdf file download</WebsiteDescription><WebsiteLink>https://unglue.it/download_ebook/3029/</WebsiteLink></Website></Supplier><ProductAvailability>20</ProductAvailability><Price><PriceType>01</PriceType><PriceAmount>0.00</PriceAmount><CurrencyCode>USD</CurrencyCode></Price></SupplyDetail></ProductSupply></Product><Product><RecordReference>it.unglue.work.159466.246459</RecordReference><NotificationType>03</NotificationType><ProductIdentifier><ProductIDType>01</ProductIDType><IDTypeName>unglue.it edition id</IDTypeName><IDValue>246459</IDValue></ProductIdentifier><DescriptiveDetail><ProductComposition>00</ProductComposition><ProductForm>ED</ProductForm><ProductFormDetail>E116</ProductFormDetail><ProductFormDetail>E107</ProductFormDetail><ProductFormDetail>E101</ProductFormDetail><EpubLicense><EpubLicenseName>CC BY</EpubLicenseName><EpubLicenseExpression><EpubLicenseExpressionType>01</EpubLicenseExpressionType><EpubLicenseExpressionLink>https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/</EpubLicenseExpressionLink></EpubLicenseExpression></EpubLicense><TitleDetail><TitleType>01</TitleType><TitleElement><TitleElementLevel>01</TitleElementLevel><TitleText>An Introduction to libuv: Release 2.0.0</TitleText></TitleElement></TitleDetail><Contributor><SequenceNumber>1</SequenceNumber><ContributorRole>A01</ContributorRole><PersonName>Nikhil Marathe</PersonName><PersonNameInverted>Marathe, Nikhil</PersonNameInverted></Contributor><Language><LanguageRole>01</LanguageRole><LanguageCode>eng</LanguageCode></Language><Subject><SubjectSchemeIdentifier>20</SubjectSchemeIdentifier><SubjectHeadingText>C++ (Computer programming language)</SubjectHeadingText></Subject><Subject><SubjectSchemeIdentifier>20</SubjectSchemeIdentifier><SubjectHeadingText>Computer network architectures</SubjectHeadingText></Subject><Subject><SubjectSchemeIdentifier>04</SubjectSchemeIdentifier><SubjectHeadingText>Computer programming</SubjectHeadingText></Subject><Subject><SubjectSchemeIdentifier>10</SubjectSchemeIdentifier><SubjectCode>COM000000</SubjectCode><SubjectHeadingText>Computers</SubjectHeadingText></Subject><Subject><SubjectSchemeIdentifier>10</SubjectSchemeIdentifier><SubjectCode></SubjectCode><SubjectHeadingText>Computers / Programming</SubjectHeadingText></Subject><Subject><SubjectSchemeIdentifier>10</SubjectSchemeIdentifier><SubjectCode>COM051390</SubjectCode><SubjectHeadingText>Computers / Programming / Open Source</SubjectHeadingText></Subject><Subject><SubjectSchemeIdentifier>20</SubjectSchemeIdentifier><SubjectHeadingText>Systems engineering</SubjectHeadingText></Subject></DescriptiveDetail><CollateralDetail><TextContent><TextType>03</TextType><ContentAudience>00</ContentAudience><Text textformat="05"><div><p>This book is a small set of tutorials about using libuv as a high performance evented I/O library which offers the same API on Windows and Unix.</p>

<p>Who this book is for. If you are reading this book, you are either:</p>
<ol>
<li>
<p>a systems programmer, creating low-level programs such as daemons or network services and clients. You have found that the event loop approach is well suited for your application and decided to use libuv.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>a node.js module writer, who wants to wrap platform APIs written in C or C++ with a set of (a)synchronous APIs that are exposed to JavaScript. You will use libuv purely in the context of node.js. For this you will require some other resources as the book does not cover parts specific to v8/node.js.</p>

<p>This book assumes that you are comfortable with the C programming language.</p>

textformat="05"><div>A key aspect of cyber-physical systems (CPS) is their potential for integrating information technologies with embedded control systems and physical systems to form new or improved functionalities. CPS thus draws upon advances in many areas. This positioning provides unprecedented opportunities for innovation, both within and across existing domains. However, at the same time, it is commonly understood that we are already stretching the limits of existing methodologies. In embarking towards CPS with such unprecedented capabilities, it becomes essential to improve our understanding of CPS complexity and how we can deal with it. Complexity has many facets, including complexity of the CPS itself, of the environments in which the CPS acts, and in terms of the organizations and supporting tools that develop, operate, and maintain CPS. This book is a result of a journal Special Issue, with the objective of providing a forum for researchers and practitioners to exchange their latest achievements and to identify critical issues, challenges, opportunities, and future directions for how to deal with the complexity of future CPS. The contributions include 10 papers on the following topics: (I) Systems and Societal Aspects Related to CPS and Their Complexity; (II) Model-Based Development Methods for CPS; (III) CPS Resource Management and Evolving Computing Platforms; and (IV) Architectures for CPS.<br/><br/>Listed by <a href="https://unglue.it/work/492095/">Unglue.it</a>.</div></Text></TextContent><SupportingResource><ResourceContentType>01</ResourceContentType><ContentAudience>00</ContentAudience><ResourceMode>03</ResourceMode><ResourceVersion><ResourceForm>01</ResourceForm><ResourceVersionFeature><ResourceVersionFeatureType>01</ResourceVersionFeatureType><FeatureValue>D502</FeatureValue></ResourceVersionFeature><ResourceLink>/static/images/generic_cover_larger.png</ResourceLink></ResourceVersion></SupportingResource></CollateralDetail><PublishingDetail><Publisher><PublishingRole>01</PublishingRole><PublisherName>MDPI - Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute</PublisherName></Publisher><PublishingStatus>00</PublishingStatus><PublishingDate><PublishingDateRole>01</PublishingDateRole><Date>2021</Date></PublishingDate></PublishingDetail><ProductSupply><Market><Territory><RegionsIncluded>WORLD</RegionsIncluded></Territory></Market><SupplyDetail><Supplier><SupplierRole>11</SupplierRole><SupplierName>Unglue.it</SupplierName><Website><WebsiteRole>29</WebsiteRole><WebsiteDescription textformat="06">pdf file download</WebsiteDescription><WebsiteLink>https://unglue.it/download_ebook/465889/</WebsiteLink></Website></Supplier><ProductAvailability>20</ProductAvailability><Price><PriceType>01</PriceType><PriceAmount>0.00</PriceAmount><CurrencyCode>USD</CurrencyCode></Price></SupplyDetail></ProductSupply></Product><Product><RecordReference>it.unglue.work.519488.695635</RecordReference><NotificationType>03</NotificationType><ProductIdentifier><ProductIDType>01</ProductIDType><IDTypeName>unglue.it edition id</IDTypeName><IDValue>695635</IDValue></ProductIdentifier><DescriptiveDetail><ProductComposition>00</ProductComposition><ProductForm>ED</ProductForm><ProductFormDetail>E107</ProductFormDetail><EpubLicense><EpubLicenseName>CC BY</EpubLicenseName><EpubLicenseExpression><EpubLicenseExpressionType>01</EpubLicenseExpressionType><EpubLicenseExpressionLink>https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/</EpubLicenseExpressionLink></EpubLicenseExpression></EpubLicense><TitleDetail><TitleType>01</TitleType><TitleElement><TitleElementLevel>01</TitleElementLevel><TitleText>Civil and Military Airworthiness</TitleText></TitleElement></TitleDetail><Contributor><SequenceNumber>1</SequenceNumber><ContributorRole>B01</ContributorRole><PersonName>Kyriakos I. It represents the capstone to Deep Lab, a residency host- ed by the Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in collaboration with CMU’s CyLab Usable Privacy and Security Laboratory.<br/><br/>
Deep Lab is a congress of cyberfeminist researchers, organized by STUDIO Fellow Addie Wagenknecht to examine how the themes of privacy, security, surveillance, anonymity, and large- scale data aggregation are problematized in the arts, culture and society. During the second week of December 2014, the Deep Lab participants—a group of internationally acclaimed new-media artists, information designers, data scientists, software engineers, hackers, writers, journalists and theoreticians—gathered to en- gage in critical assessments of contemporary digital culture. They worked collaboratively at the STUDIO in an accelerated pressure project, blending aspects of a booksprint, hackathon, dugnad, charrette, and a micro-conference. The outcomes of this effort include the visualizations, software, reflections and manifestos compiled in this book; an album of ten lecture presentations,
the Deep Lab Lecture Series, which can be found in the STUDIO’s online video archive; and a twenty-minute documentary film featuring interviews with the Deep Lab participants.

Solve the right problem in the right way, mankind moves forward. Solve the right problem in the wrong way or the wrong problem in the right way, however clever or ingenious the solution, neither credits mankind. Instead, this misfire demonstrates a failure to appreciate a crucial step in pragmatic problem solving: systems integration. The first book to address the underlying premises of systems integration and how to exposit them in a practical and productive manner, Engineering Systems Integration: Theory, Metrics, and Methods looks at the fundamental nature of integration, exposes the subtle premises to achieve integration, and posits a substantial theoretical framework that is both simple and clear. Offering systems managers and systems engineers the framework from which to consider their decisions in light of systems integration metrics, the book isolates two basic questions, 1) Is there a way to express the interplay of human actions and the result of system interactions of a product with its environment?, and 2) Are there methods that combine to improve the integration of systems? The author applies the four axioms of General Systems Theory (holism, decomposition, isomorphism, and models) and explores the domains of history and interpretation to devise a theory of systems integration, develop practical guidance applying the three frameworks, and formulate the mathematical constructs needed for systems integration. The practicalities of integrating parts when we build or analyze systems mandate an analysis and evaluation of existing integrative frameworks of causality and knowledge. Integration is not just a word that describes a best practice, an art, or a single discipline. The act of integrating is an approach, operative in all disciplines, in all we see, in all we do.<br/><br/>Listed by <a textformat="05"><div>Komplexität ist eine der großen Herausforderungen unserer Zeit. Zur effektiven und effizienten Anwendung der Methodik wird ein IT-Werkzeug präsentiert, das Entwickler bei deren Aufgaben im Rahmen des holistischen Komplexitätsmanagements unterstützt.<br/><br/>Listed by <a href="https://unglue.it/work/1585949/">Unglue.it</a>.</div></Text></TextContent><SupportingResource><ResourceContentType>01</ResourceContentType><ContentAudience>00</ContentAudience><ResourceMode>03</ResourceMode><ResourceVersion><ResourceForm>01</ResourceForm><ResourceVersionFeature><ResourceVersionFeatureType>01</ResourceVersionFeatureType><FeatureValue>D502</FeatureValue></ResourceVersionFeature><ResourceLink>https://tieulgnu.s3.amazonaws.com/cache/ab/40/ab40e08d0e74c8f79cdb053dcf31e657.jpg</ResourceLink></ResourceVersion></SupportingResource></CollateralDetail><PublishingDetail><Publisher><PublishingRole>01</PublishingRole><PublisherName>FAU University Press</PublisherName></Publisher><PublishingStatus>00</PublishingStatus><PublishingDate><PublishingDateRole>01</PublishingDateRole><Date>2022</Date></PublishingDate></PublishingDetail><ProductSupply><Market><Territory><RegionsIncluded>WORLD</RegionsIncluded></Territory></Market><SupplyDetail><Supplier><SupplierRole>11</SupplierRole><SupplierName>Unglue.it</SupplierName><Website><WebsiteRole>29</WebsiteRole><WebsiteDescription textformat="06">pdf file download</WebsiteDescription><WebsiteLink>https://unglue.it/download_ebook/708369/</WebsiteLink></Website></Supplier><ProductAvailability>20</ProductAvailability><Price><PriceType>01</PriceType><PriceAmount>0.00</PriceAmount><CurrencyCode>USD</CurrencyCode></Price></SupplyDetail></ProductSupply></Product><Product><RecordReference>it.unglue.work.589826.788236</RecordReference><NotificationType>03</NotificationType><ProductIdentifier><ProductIDType>01</ProductIDType><IDTypeName>unglue.it edition id</IDTypeName><IDValue>788236</IDValue></ProductIdentifier><DescriptiveDetail><ProductComposition>00</ProductComposition><ProductForm>ED</ProductForm><ProductFormDetail>E107</ProductFormDetail><EpubLicense><EpubLicenseName>CC BY</EpubLicenseName><EpubLicenseExpression><EpubLicenseExpressionType>01</EpubLicenseExpressionType><EpubLicenseExpressionLink>https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/</EpubLicenseExpressionLink></EpubLicenseExpression></EpubLicense><TitleDetail><TitleType>01</TitleType><TitleElement><TitleElementLevel>01</TitleElementLevel><TitleText>Structured Electronics Design</TitleText></TitleElement></TitleDetail><Contributor><SequenceNumber>1</SequenceNumber><ContributorRole>A01</ContributorRole><PersonName>Anton J.M. textformat="05"><div>This Systems Thinking Special Issue contains 12 papers on the nature of systems thinking as it applies to systems engineering, systems science, system dynamics, and related fields. Systems thinking can be broadly considered the activity of thinking applied in a systems context, forming a basis for fundamental approaches to several systems disciplines, including systems engineering, systems science, and system dynamics. Although these are somewhat distinct fields, they are bound by common approaches in regard to systems. Whereas systems engineering seeks to apply a multidisciplinary, holistic approach to the development of systems, systems science seeks to understand the basics related to systems of all kinds, from natural to man-made, and system dynamics seeks to understand system structures in order to influence its dynamics. Man-made systems have become more ubiquitous and complex. The study of systems, both natural and engineered, presents new challenges and opportunities to understand emergent, dynamic behaviors that inform the process of sense-making based on systems thinking.<br/><br/>Listed by <a href="https://unglue.it/work/492174/">Unglue.it</a>.</div></Text></TextContent><SupportingResource><ResourceContentType>01</ResourceContentType><ContentAudience>00</ContentAudience><ResourceMode>03</ResourceMode><ResourceVersion><ResourceForm>01</ResourceForm><ResourceVersionFeature><ResourceVersionFeatureType>01</ResourceVersionFeatureType><FeatureValue>D502</FeatureValue></ResourceVersionFeature><ResourceLink>/static/images/generic_cover_larger.png</ResourceLink></ResourceVersion></SupportingResource></CollateralDetail><PublishingDetail><Publisher><PublishingRole>01</PublishingRole><PublisherName>MDPI - Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute</PublisherName></Publisher><PublishingStatus>00</PublishingStatus><PublishingDate><PublishingDateRole>01</PublishingDateRole><Date>2020</Date></PublishingDate></PublishingDetail><ProductSupply><Market><Territory><RegionsIncluded>WORLD</RegionsIncluded></Territory></Market><SupplyDetail><Supplier><SupplierRole>11</SupplierRole><SupplierName>Unglue.it</SupplierName><Website><WebsiteRole>29</WebsiteRole><WebsiteDescription textformat="06">pdf file download</WebsiteDescription><WebsiteLink>https://unglue.it/download_ebook/465960/</WebsiteLink></Website></Supplier><ProductAvailability>20</ProductAvailability><Price><PriceType>01</PriceType><PriceAmount>0.00</PriceAmount><CurrencyCode>USD</CurrencyCode></Price></SupplyDetail></ProductSupply></Product><Product><RecordReference>it.unglue.work.140789.219886</RecordReference><NotificationType>03</NotificationType><ProductIdentifier><ProductIDType>01</ProductIDType><IDTypeName>unglue.it edition id</IDTypeName><IDValue>219886</IDValue></ProductIdentifier><ProductIdentifier><ProductIDType>03</ProductIDType><IDValue>9781304488787</IDValue></ProductIdentifier><DescriptiveDetail><ProductComposition>00</ProductComposition><ProductForm>ED</ProductForm><ProductFormDetail>E116</ProductFormDetail><ProductFormDetail>E101</ProductFormDetail><ProductFormDetail>E107</ProductFormDetail><EpubLicense><EpubLicenseName>CC BY</EpubLicenseName><EpubLicenseExpression><EpubLicenseExpressionType>01</EpubLicenseExpressionType><EpubLicenseExpressionLink>https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/</EpubLicenseExpressionLink></EpubLicenseExpression></EpubLicense><TitleDetail><TitleType>01</TitleType><TitleElement><TitleElementLevel>01</TitleElementLevel><TitleText>The Performance of Open Source Applications - Speed, Precision, and a Bit of Serendipity</TitleText></TitleElement></TitleDetail><Contributor><SequenceNumber>1</SequenceNumber><ContributorRole>A01</ContributorRole><PersonName>Tavish Armstrong</PersonName><PersonNameInverted>Armstrong, Tavish</PersonNameInverted></Contributor><Language><LanguageRole>01</LanguageRole><LanguageCode>eng</LanguageCode></Language><Subject><SubjectSchemeIdentifier>04</SubjectSchemeIdentifier><SubjectHeadingText>Computer programming</SubjectHeadingText></Subject><Subject><SubjectSchemeIdentifier>20</SubjectSchemeIdentifier><SubjectHeadingText>Computer scientists</SubjectHeadingText></Subject><Subject><SubjectSchemeIdentifier>10</SubjectSchemeIdentifier><SubjectCode>COM000000</SubjectCode><SubjectHeadingText>Computers</SubjectHeadingText></Subject><Subject><SubjectSchemeIdentifier>20</SubjectSchemeIdentifier><SubjectHeadingText>Nonfiction</SubjectHeadingText></Subject><Subject><SubjectSchemeIdentifier>20</SubjectSchemeIdentifier><SubjectHeadingText>Systems engineering</SubjectHeadingText></Subject></DescriptiveDetail><CollateralDetail><TextContent><TextType>03</TextType><ContentAudience>00</ContentAudience><Text textformat="05"><div>In 1974, Donald Knuth wrote, "We should forget about small efficiencies, say about 97% of the time: premature optimization is the root of all evil." With computers available now that are millions of times faster than those available then, today's programmers have even less reason to worry about shaving cycles and saving bytes than those a generation ago. But "less" isn't "none": every once in a while, squeezing the last ounce of performance out of the machine really does matter.

This book is written by over a dozen developers who have grappled with slow code, memory leaks, or uncontrollable latency in open source software. They share their mistakes and successes, and give the reader an over-the-shoulder view of how they approached their specific challenges. With examples from bioinformatics research code to web browsers, the solutions are as varied as the problems.
<br/><br/>
This book will help junior and senior developers alike understand how their colleagues think about performance.<br/><br/>

textformat="05"><div>Acquiring knowledge is a life-long process; we constantly need to keep abreast of developments and progress in science and other disciplines. Embracing a scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) means practicing constant self-reflection, involving evaluation of the academic career and the ways in which strategies are designed to examine, interpret, and share learning about teaching. This practice not only yields benefits to the lecturer but also enriches the scholarly community in the discipline. In general, SoTL is regarded as a vibrant practice of ongoing self-criticism and sharing, which results in accumulated teaching experiences for teachers, students, and the teaching community at large. This book is a contribution from authors sharing their experiences, how their teaching portfolios reflect their personal development as teachers, and how their teaching experiences are embedded in the scholarship of teaching and learning.<br/><br/>Listed by <a href="https://unglue.it/work/456312/">Unglue.it</a>.</div></Text></TextContent><SupportingResource><ResourceContentType>01</ResourceContentType><ContentAudience>00</ContentAudience><ResourceMode>03</ResourceMode><ResourceVersion><ResourceForm>01</ResourceForm><ResourceVersionFeature><ResourceVersionFeatureType>01</ResourceVersionFeatureType><FeatureValue>D502</FeatureValue></ResourceVersionFeature><ResourceLink>https://tieulgnu.s3.amazonaws.com/cache/fa/b8/fab86fe2a88275f2d4e8b14debd4a317.jpg</ResourceLink></ResourceVersion></SupportingResource></CollateralDetail><PublishingDetail><Publisher><PublishingRole>01</PublishingRole><PublisherName>MDPI</PublisherName></Publisher><PublishingStatus>00</PublishingStatus><PublishingDate><PublishingDateRole>01</PublishingDateRole><Date>20191212</Date></PublishingDate></PublishingDetail><ProductSupply><Market><Territory><RegionsIncluded>WORLD</RegionsIncluded></Territory></Market><SupplyDetail><Supplier><SupplierRole>11</SupplierRole><SupplierName>Unglue.it</SupplierName><Website><WebsiteRole>29</WebsiteRole><WebsiteDescription textformat="06">pdf file download</WebsiteDescription><WebsiteLink>https://unglue.it/download_ebook/465887/</WebsiteLink></Website></Supplier><ProductAvailability>20</ProductAvailability><Price><PriceType>01</PriceType><PriceAmount>0.00</PriceAmount><CurrencyCode>USD</CurrencyCode></Price></SupplyDetail></ProductSupply></Product></ONIXMessage>
